TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My primary role as a teacher is to disseminate knowledge and equip my students with the skills to succeed in the 21st century. To achieve this goal, I foster both a critical and analytical thinking environment which combines high expectations with rigorous mathematical knowledge. In order for knowledge to be valued by the students, it must be relevant by being applied to a real world situation. It must be interesting as to excite further discussions and discoveries. It must contain clear and simple ideas that empower students to believe that they can be successful at learning. Students must be allowed to find their own excitement at discovering new analytical skills outside the classroom through simple investigative problems. This is why I often task each student to research one or two topics relevant to the course, which he/she must present to me or to the class for a further debate. In their search, students learn the best practices for their success in the course such as critical thinking, collaboration, curiosity, determination, engagement, and discipline. In return, they are rewarded with a grade that best reflects their efforts, their progress, and their committment to learning outside their confort zone.
