Not so long ago, before cell phones. There were little one-room houses called telephone booths. They were located in downtown areas, near gas stations and rest stops. Motorists could use them too make important telephone calls. Telephone booth's existed so that we could make important calls without infringing on anyone else's attention or activities. Unfortunately, now we no longer need telephone booths because we have cell phones.

Telephone booths were made for one person, they were little glass and chrome huts that you could enter to be alone. People looking in from the outside could see us but not hear us. We could share sweet nothings with a loved one, place a bet, or devise a secret plot. We didn't bother anyone because no one could hear what we were saying. Furthermore, we could not always be reached by frends and relatives whom were just calling us because they were bored.

Unfortunately, now they are gone. We don't need them anymore because now we create our own phone booths out of the air around us. We are not shy about letting everyone around us hears our conversations. We have talked about even the most intimate details of our lives. To other people who can't help overhearing, this is extremely annoying. We are always available to callers because we can't make ourself turn off our cell phones.

Before cell phones were so common, phone booths let us make telephone calls in complete privacy. Away from home. We were unreachable. However, being unreachable was nice. For a change. We were not tethered to cell phone calls from anyone with time on their hands.
