Class Participation Grade

At the midterm and at the end of the semester you will assign yourself a participation grade and justify it according to the following criteria. I will reserve the right to disagree with your self-evaluation and will reassign a more appropriate grade when necessary.

Very Good to Excellent (44-50 points)
I attended every class meeting, always arriving on time.
I always remained in class the entire time.
I actively participated in all activities and had a positive attitude.
I never used English to express something I could say in Spanish.
I came to class prepared every day, having read assignments and completed homework.
I always asked for help or clarification when needed.
I listened attentively to others and showed respect for my classmates and professor.
I always brought my book(s) to class.
My presence made a positive impact and enhanced the leaning experience of the classroom community.

Average to Good (36-43 points)
I missed one or two classes or arrived late to class once or twice.
I interrupted class by leaving and returning on one or two occasions.
I got distracted, did not pay attention when others were speaking, and/or was disrespectful to others in the classroom community on one or two occasions.
I forgot my book(s) once or twice.
I showed interest in activities and participated, though sometimes passively rather than actively.
I usually used Spanish in class.
I generally came to class prepared, but not always.
I sometimes asked for help or clarification.
I occasionally used English, especially in pairs and group work, without attempting to express myself in Spanish first.
My presence made a somewhat positive impact on completing tasks and enhancing the learning experience of the classroom community.

Poor to Unsatisfactory (35 points or less)
I missed three or more classes and/or arrived late two or more times.
I interrupted class by leaving and returning on more than two occasions.
I often came to class without my book(s).
I was frequently unprepared for class and therefore was unable to participate.
I got distracted, did not pay attention when others were speaking, and/or was disrespectful to others in the classroom community on multiple occasions.
I rarely sought help or clarification.
I used more English than Spanish in class.
My presence made a negligible or negative impact on the learning experience of the classroom community.
