French 1001, spring 2015, Exam I prep

 

I.  Dictée :  Write the following sentences in French as you hear them.

               

·         Example: "C'est lundi le quatorze mars."

 

II.   Répondre :  Answer the following questions in French using complete sentences wherever possible.

 

·         Example: "Quelle est la date aujourd'hui?"  Answer: "C'est lundi le quatorze mars."

 

III.  A l'écoute: Here you will do 1 or 2  exercises directly from or similar to those found in the lab materials.  If you've been working on those, you're all set.

 

IV.  Traduisez: Give the equivalent of the following in French..

 

·         Example: French people (in general) like wine. Answer: "Les Français aiment le vin.

 

V.  Structures

A. Complete the following description by filling in the missing articles or nouns.

 

·         Example: Dans ma chambre (In my bedroom), il y a un _____________________ et _____ table.

 

B. Thierry, a French student, is introducing you to his friends and talking about campus life. Re-create his tour by forming complete sentences based on the words given, in the order given. Conjugate the verbs and make any other necessary changes. (10 points)

·         Example: Voici des amis: Monique et Laurent / étudier / sciences naturelles.

C.      Your friend is talking about a new student in his class. Complete his sentences with either C’est or Elle est.

 

·         Example: Voilà Charlotte! _____________________1 une nouvelle (new) étudiante ici.

 

D.       Provide either the answer or the question missing from the verbal exchange shown

·         Example: « _____________________!» 1  «Ça va très bien, merci.»

 

VI.                Paroles: (may come from any sections).

 

Examples:

·         Write out the following dates in French: 23.4, 19.10, etc.

·         From illustrations or answering questions, identify places or subjects of study.

·         Using adjectives, indicate which flags you are looking at. (5 points)

VII.             Composition:  From a context I will provide, you should be able to write a short composition that includes questions and answers about five of the following things: Greetings, Names & Identities, Places of Origin, Today’s Date, Likes and Dislikes, Descriptions or Comparisons, and Good-byes. Conjugate the verb être and use adjectives correctly.
